My senior year was particularly memorable thanks to the tall, handsome, goofy guy in my choir class. I’m not sure what attracted my attention first—his beautiful blue eyes or his sense of humor—but I was enamored. I followed him to every show his band played, and he attended all of my dance recitals. We were inseparable, and after college and seven years of dating we were engaged.

Our wedding was sublime. My mother made my gown, hand stitching Swarovski crystals to the $58 a yard lace panel that hung below my waist. Everyone pitched in to transform the church and reception hall into a fall fairytale right down to the tiny pumpkins that lined the guest tables.
The cakes were amazing. The bridal cake was covered in white chocolate leaves and had a Bavarian cream filling. The groom’s cake was a scaled down replica of my husband’s Gold-top Les Paul. Who knew a guitar could taste so good. It beat the bride’s cake by a chocolaty landslide and was the guest’s favorite.

When the evening ended, we loaded our gifts into the limousine and said our goodbyes. The limo driver rushed us out the door only to tell us he was late for another engagement. He then told us he would have to drop us off close by so he could be on time for his next appointment. Thankfully my husband’s grandfather and mother came to the rescue.
We were dropped off at the church, and the driver kindly helped us unload our packages before peeling out of the driveway. It was cold, but we had each other to keep warm. Soon our escorts arrived to take us to the house. It felt like we were on a chaperoned date. Once home we unloaded the car and said our farewells one last time.
Looking back I realize we had our wedding day blunders like everyone else. The unity candle didn’t light, I got red waxed poured down the front of my dress, we ran out of cake and had the limo driver from Hades…but I wouldn’t change a thing. Love is never perfect, but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful.

One of my favorite moments came during the wedding. As a thank you to our parents for all they did for us, we wrote and recorded a song that played along with a timeline of photos during our unity candle debacle. Some of my favorites are featured in this post. Guess it was inevitable that Wonder Woman and Superman got together.
Thank you to my husband for seven wonderful years of wedded bliss, which makes a total of 14 years together…and counting.
